Privacy Policy

Senth ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Senth mobile application and the website at senthapp.com. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We built Senth with privacy as a core principle — not an afterthought.

1. Data We Collect

1.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

• Phone number — used solely for verification. Your phone number is immediately hashed using bcrypt before storage. We never store, see, or have access to your raw phone number after verification.
• Display name — a name or alias of your choosing. No real name is required, ever.
• Date of birth — to verify that you are at least 18 years old. Only your age is stored, not your full date of birth.
• Email address — if you join our waitlist or opt in to communications.

1.2 Profile Information

You may choose to provide profile photos, a bio, and preferences. All profile photos are processed to strip EXIF metadata (including GPS coordinates, camera model, and timestamps) before storage. We store only the cleaned image.

1.3 Location Data

Senth requires approximate location to show you nearby people. Your location is grid-snapped to a 500-metre grid — meaning we round your coordinates to the nearest 500m intersection point. Your exact GPS coordinates are never stored, transmitted to our servers, or shared with other users. The grid-snapping occurs on your device before any data leaves it.

1.4 Messages and Conversations

Messages you send through Senth are ephemeral by design. All messages are automatically and permanently deleted 48 hours after they are sent. We do not archive, back up, or retain message content beyond this window. Once deleted, messages cannot be recovered — by you, by the other user, or by us.

1.5 Usage and Analytics Data

We collect anonymised usage data to improve the app, including screen views, feature usage patterns, app version, device type, and crash reports. This data is collected through PostHog, our analytics provider, and does not include message content, photos, or precise location.

1.6 Device Information

We collect basic device information including operating system, app version, and device model to ensure compatibility and diagnose issues.

2. How We Use Your Data

We use the data we collect to:

• Verify your identity and age during sign-up
• Show your profile to other users in your approximate area
• Deliver messages between matched users within the 48-hour window
• Detect and prevent abuse, spam, and prohibited conduct
• Send screenshot detection alerts when another user captures your content
• Improve the app through anonymised analytics
• Communicate with you about your account, security alerts, or service updates

3. Data Storage and Security

All data is hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the ap-south-1 (Mumbai, India) region. Data is encrypted at rest using AES-256 and in transit using TLS 1.2 or higher.

Phone numbers are hashed using bcrypt with a unique salt per user. This is a one-way operation — we cannot reverse the hash to recover your phone number.

4. Ephemeral Data

The following data is automatically and permanently deleted on a strict schedule:

• Messages — deleted 48 hours after being sent
• Match connections — dissolved 48 hours after matching if no meeting is confirmed
• Shared photos within chats — deleted alongside messages at the 48-hour mark

Deletion is automated and irreversible. We do not maintain backups of ephemeral data.

5. Location Privacy

Your privacy around location is protected through multiple layers:

• GPS coordinates are grid-snapped to a 500m grid on-device before transmission
• Other users see only an approximate distance ("2 km away"), never a location point
• We do not maintain a history of your location over time
• Location data is refreshed only when you actively open the app — there is no background tracking

6. Photo Handling

Every photo uploaded to Senth is processed as follows:

• All EXIF metadata is stripped, including GPS coordinates, timestamps, camera make and model, and software information
• Photos are stored in their cleaned form only — the original with metadata is never retained
• Profile photos are deleted when you remove them or delete your account
• Photos shared in conversations are deleted after 48 hours along with the message

7. Screenshot Detection

Senth detects when a user takes a screenshot within the app. When a screenshot is detected, the other user in the conversation is notified immediately. This feature exists to protect user content and cannot be disabled.

8. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to third parties. We share data only in the following limited circumstances:

• Other users — your display name, profile photos (EXIF-stripped), bio, age, and approximate distance are visible to other users. Messages are visible only to matched users during the 48-hour window.
• Service providers — we use AWS for hosting and infrastructure, and PostHog for anonymised product analytics. These providers process data on our behalf under strict contractual obligations.
• Legal requirements — we may disclose data if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request. Given our minimal data retention, there is very little data available to disclose.

9. Third-Party Services

9.1 Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Our infrastructure is hosted on AWS in the ap-south-1 (Mumbai) region. AWS acts as a data processor under our instructions. Their privacy practices are governed by the AWS Privacy Notice.

9.2 PostHog Analytics

We use PostHog for anonymised product analytics to understand how people use Senth and to improve the experience. PostHog does not receive message content, photos, phone numbers, or precise location data. You can learn more at PostHog's Privacy Policy.

10. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Correction — update or correct inaccurate information in your profile at any time
• Deletion — delete your account and all associated data permanently (see Section 11)
• Data portability — request your data in a machine-readable format
• Withdraw consent — revoke permissions (such as location access) at any time through your device settings
• Object — object to processing of your data for specific purposes

11. Account Deletion

When you delete your account — whether through the app or by contacting us — the following happens immediately and permanently:

• Your profile, display name, photos, and bio are deleted
• Your bcrypt-hashed phone number is deleted
• All active matches and conversations are dissolved
• Any remaining messages within the 48-hour window are deleted immediately
• Analytics data associated with your account is anonymised

This action is irreversible. We do not offer account recovery after deletion. There is no "soft delete" or grace period — deletion means the data is gone.

12. Cookies and Local Storage

The Senth website (senthapp.com) uses minimal cookies:

• Essential cookies — required for basic website functionality such as form submissions
• Analytics cookies — used by PostHog to collect anonymised usage data. These can be blocked by your browser without affecting core functionality.

The Senth mobile app does not use cookies. Local storage on your device is used only for session management and is cleared when you log out or delete your account.

13. Children's Privacy

Senth is strictly for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the age of 18. If we become aware that a user is under 18, their account will be terminated immediately and all associated data will be permanently deleted. 14. Data Retention Summary

• Messages — 48 hours, then permanently deleted
• Chat photos — 48 hours, then permanently deleted
• Profile data — retained while your account is active; deleted permanently upon account deletion
• Hashed phone number — retained while your account is active; deleted permanently upon account deletion
• Anonymised analytics — retained for up to 12 months for product improvement
• Location — never stored beyond the current session; no location history is maintained

15. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or via email before the changes take effect. Your continued use of Senth after changes are published constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
